I was working on a couple of orders yesterday, and then I took some time to play. Play time is my favorite time on the torch, and I haven’t had nearly enough of it. These are my favorites from that session.. I need to wire them up this morning, and a couple are being added to a new Traveller Series necklace, then they’ll be going up on Etsy later today. 🙂
Just finished my very first assignment for the Artist on call program for Beads of Courage.
It is by far the most complicated bead (for me) I have ever done, and not my very best, but my heart is pounding and I’m exhilarated!! What an experience this is… to make a special request bead for a child, in this case, a 10-year old girl, who is battling cancer.
A bead I have never made before for a very brave, special little girl.
Her request was for a Golden bird, flying with a red beak, and 3 long tail feathers. She also requested that it have golden claws, which I was unable to do… and I feel badly that it’s not exactly to her specifications, but the claws stumped me…. The entire bird was made in pieces and pre-warmed in the kiln… each wing and the tailfeathers torched separately, and each piece is encased gold leaf….. phew!…..
Please….please…please… may it come out of the kiln in one piece.
I’m hoping and praying that it turns out, and nothing cracked (it was big!) .
A couple of days ago, I showed pictures of my snowy white world, and said I was going to the studio to play with white enamel …
I tried to use mostly whites and neutral colors and made a classic ornate inspired by the winter landscape.
This is one of the beads that came out of that session…
So, it’s back to the torch today…. I’m running out of time to make more beads for my upcoming trip!
Have a beautiful day!!
Just a quick update to let you know that I’m working on a new tutorial.
It will be my Artifact Series bead from the Trajectories Exhibit.
titled Tie-dye Quilt.
I have a new series I’m working on. It needs to be refined and played with, but I thought I’d give you a preview.
This came out of the kiln this morning: I’m going to call them Fruits of Fancy. Lots of possibilities I think. The hole goes all the way through these, so it’s a true bead, and won’t need a bail, although I can see having fun with the shapes of the “fruit” and making them off-mandrel as well.
I’m off to the gym on this freakishly warm day. … off to work out and roll the fruit idea around in my brain while I listen to my new Jason Mraz album (or download…whatever).
…. I was having a discussion with hubby about wanting a tattoo…. I’ve always wanted one…. it’s sort of a tribal thing. And I’m not a tribal gal…. being about as waspish as I can be, but still……it’s a dream. I want a tatoo, and I’m thinking that I’m old enough….in my 40s, and I hopefully still know my own mind, so I here’s the conversation…..
Me: “I want a tatoo….. maybe on my ankle…”
Hubby: ” I think that’s a good idea: you’ve always wanted one…”
Me: ” I think it wouldn’t change much, being on my ankle, even if I get old and flabby…:
Hubby: ” Maybe I should get one too!”
Me: but you always said you didn’t want one…..disfiguring the flesh and all that….”
Hubby: Maybe I’ll get one that says: ” Crap Bag – Banana Hammock”
So here’s the thing… First prize of a bird bead goes to the first person who can not only tell me the source of my hubby’s brilliant response, but the relevence to this conversation….
Bird is my choice.
